Winter 2010

Winter has enveloped the NC Triangle and become a beautiful nuisance. Snow still clings to the shrubs, obliterating the once blooming camellias. It hardly seems as if we’ve left New York! Only two weeks ago we were heading south, driving through snow in Georgia and sleet in north Florida. Once in Miami, things brightened.

A major purpose of the trip was to meet the owners of Art Rouge, a gallery in Miami’s international Art District. We’re very happy to say we completed arrangements for Murry’s work to be represented in the spacious gallery which exhibits contemporary art and large modern sculpture. They will be showing the “ËœQuintile’ series of 5-panel movable constructions, and other paintings. Please visit their web-site to see the handsome gallery. www.artrouge.com

While there, we enjoyed visiting Miami’s International Art Fair at the Convention Center, a mammoth space with incredible art from around the globe.

Miami is a truly international city where we heard at least a half dozen different languages spoken. Best of all, Enid got to tour the Art Deco District, drink at a decadent Art Deco bar, dine in an Art Deco restaurant and gape at the gloriously restored architecture.

Flanders, the Raleigh gallery carrying Murry’s artwork, has moved into its new space, and it is awesome! Located in the old warehouse area of downtown Raleigh, the gallery is very large, with two story high walls. You can see Murry’s work on their web page: www.Flandersartgallery.com

Have you seen the Youtube video of us both, courtesy of UNC media dept.? Murry’s diptych of paintings donated to the Cardiac Rehab Center made a HUGE hit, and the video brought us a flood of congratulatory and grateful e-mail messages. Take a peek.

In an earlier News & Notes I mentioned a commission to create a wall installation in a Fearrington Village townhouse for a 22′ high ceiling. The owner asked Murry to create asymmetrical oriental-style display cubicles on the floor, and a construction that “Ëœsoars’ up to the ceiling.   Murry worked with Sheldon Cohen, a skillful cabinet maker whose workshop is in Raleigh, to complete the project. A fabulous Holiday party was held in December to celebrate the completed wall units.   (see the photo below)
