Realism Inserted
This newest series of paintings consists of a background setting of abstract design elements, with realism as a surprise focal point. Nature is a major theme, as it is in much of my work. After I’m satisfied with the overall expanse of the canvas, I paint realistic flora and fauna within the semi-abstract backdrop.
The ultimate fun for me is the surprise of finding, sometimes quite by accident, how it all comes together as a finished creation. I try to reach beyond myself by creating a mental expanse that combines materials that would not ordinarily be combined, colors that should not go together, shapes and forms that are unlikely to easily coexist, and make them work together.
The exultation is in the process of employing the exact weight of the line, the final patch of paint, the perfect confluence of shapes. It’s Serendipity, with a lot of practice.
